Hey all
I know I complain alot about people. Some passengers on my plane, some morons at the movie theater and the like. But I do really like to be around people. Which is why I love my job so much. The other reason is that I get tons of time off. Like yesterday was a work day but I ended up being done at 8am. So today is my first day off of this series but it feels like day 2. I have been getting 14 day off a month for the last few months and I was really ticked off in January and February when I was only getting 11 days off. But it is a huge difference. I get paid the same basically if I have 11 days off or 14 days off so I want 14 days off. Granted I don't really make any money anyway. Flight attendants for a regional carriers get paid squat! But the benefits are awesome and I get all this time off, so it is a trade off. I would rather be home with my daughter than making $50k a year working Mon-Fri! Yes I work a lot of weekends but it works out cause that is when her dad will have her and plus she is at daycare less and is usually with a parent or grandparent when I am gone on trips and rarley goes to daycare. Although, her daycare is one of the best on this side of town, I still don't want her raised by daycare and they really are not at the stage of teaching them much at her age. When she is 18 months then she goes to the next classroom and they do start teaching but for now I want to be home with her, so the money is not all that important.
Ok but since we are on the subject of work, I would like to point out things that people do that are just crazy. For those of you who are not frequent flyers, please do not do these things.
Background: We have the gate check system. It is a small plane and the rolling carry ons do not really fit onboard. So we gate check. Which means you leave it in the jetway, the ramp guys put it in the back and then when we land the ramp guys at the destination bring the gate checked only bags to the jet way and you pick them up and leave.
1. When there are 20 bags sitting at the bottom of the jetway and some one walks up and ask "Is this where I leave my bag?" It is very hard for me not to "Yeah, dumbass, right there with all the other bags!"
2. When we land and I have said in my announcement 3 times where the gate checks will be and then still 10 people ask "Where do I pick up my bag?" Again, very hard not to be a smartass.
Ok so don't do those things.
3. While the plane is taxi-ing in, there is no reason to open overhead bins and try to stand up. You will have plently of time once we get to the gate because it takes few minutes to get the jet way to the airplane and get the door open so relax. You're not going anywhere! You have time, there in no need to rush. Plus if you have a gate check bag, it will take several minutes to get that planeside so again even if you have a connecting flight you have to get your bag so relax. Then get your bag and then run! But NOTHING can go any faster ON the AIRPLANE. Noone in the history or aviation has a person ever made it to the gate before the airplane! Not once! Hard to beleive I know but it is true! I swear!!
Ok so now that we are done with what happends on the airplane lets talk about in the airport.
4. Walking through the airport is very similar to driving a car. If you need to pull over to read a sign then do so, DO NOT just stop. You Will get ran over. Familar with the airport or not, PULL OVER!! Check your blind spot first, of course, other wise you could still get ran over but again please do not for any circumstances just stop in the middle of traffic.
5. Do not just stand there looking like and idiot and then said "This is my first time to fly" Trust me people can tell already. But for the most part, MOST people do in fact know how to read. There are signs everywhere, just read them! Same with on the airplane with this one. Don't say you didn't put on your seat belt because this is your first time to fly. You know better, you have to wear on in a car so why wouldn't you in an airplane.
Ok so now you can see why I do enjoy my time off. If any one of these things happened only once a day it would be no biggie. But multiply that by say average of 3 flights a day, 40 people a flight and at least half ask dumb questions! Then multiply the average moron in the terminal by about 200 and that is what I go through on a daily basis while working. Now after going back, I know it does not seem like I love my job, but I really do. I just get frustrated sometimes and then if I am tired at all it can be really bad or if you throw in things like weather and mechanical problems. I will spare you the details of weather and the aftermath of weather that turns people in complete total morons. Lets just say that people think that I can predict and forcast weather and well for those of you who don't know...I can't. Nor can any other flight attendant and/or pilot. Pilots can at least read what it is supposed to do but as we all know, Mother Nature is one fickle Bitch and she does what SHE wants to do and not what it says she is supposed to on a piece of paper.
So that is a typical day for. So again now you can see why I need so much time off. I do have a lot of fun and get to see some cool places and again that is another trade off. So of the pilots are a lot of fun and we are laughing the whole time and I the passengers stupid questions don't get to me. I actually have more of those days than the one above but some of the stuff is just too funny!!!
Ok gotta run to the store. Treena I hope this helps you sleep!!!
Whatever! This was your funniest post yet!
If I ever get the chance,I am booking flights JUST WITH YOU so I can do ALL of these things!

Thanks Treena! Oh yeah and when you walk on the plane say "OH MY GOD, THIS PLANE IS SOOO SMALL!" becasue I have never heard that one before and it would just make me feel better. I always tell people that it is just like an MRI without the drugs!!
