I am very excited about this month because I was awarded a 2 day trip schedule. I have to bid every month for my schedule and I have been bidding for 2 days for quite some time and have not received them until this month. So yeah me!! I just finished the first of the 2 day trips and it was a doozie. Not so much from the workload but I have never been sooo mad on the airplane before today. And to save a little time (for me) I am going to paste the actually report that I email to my supervisor. I tried to be descriptive as possible and I will know tomorrow maybe what happened.
On this flight, I had a passenger that was very argumentative. It started very simple and then went from there. The passenger was sitting in 6B. While doing the beverage service he had requested a full can of Cran-Apple Juice. I then very politely told him that I had limited supplies and we were full so I would give him a cup then and if I had any left over on the way back I would be more that happy to give him a refill. He then got upset and started cursing me and the airline (sh**y airline and service) in general loudly. I explained again that it was only because I had limited supplies and again I would give him a refill on the way back if I had any left. He said “just keep in then”. So I went to the next row. He then tapped me on the shoulder and is now mad because I didn’t give him anything. I thought that is what he meant that he just did not want anything. So I apologized and fixed his drink. Now he is upset because I gave him ice. He did not specify when he ordered. So I then fixed him yet another glass of juice, placed it on his tray table on top of a napkin. Then, once again I attempted to go to the next person. I turned back to him to give him some pretzels and then back to the next row. He took his pretzels that I had just laid on his tray table and threw them backwards at me, along with his napkin. While doing so he spilled his drink on himself. He then blamed me that I spilled the drink on him and was screaming at me to give him a napkin, claiming that I had not given him one at all. However, he did throw it when he threw the pretzels. I gave him another napkin and went on my way.
A CAL flight attendant (Continental) was sitting in 9B (Peggy Newell, 0297X, 405-822-1045) and when I got to her row I asked if she had seen and/heard what was going on, she had not. She had been reading and also listening to headphones. I explained to her what had happened and she said she would keep and eye out for anymore outburst. When I reached the back of the cabin I called the Capt to inform him what was going on and we all agreed that we would see how he interacted to rest of the flight and if nothing more was said then we would leave it alone. I had returned to the front with the cart and had also completed one round of trash pick up with no incident so I was prepared to just let it go. However, while preparing the cabin for landing, when I got to his row his tray table was down and newspaper on top of that and drink on top of that. I had asked if he was all through and asked him to put up the tray table and there was no response. He “appeared” to be sleeping. So I said it again much louder and again no reply. I then said it again even louder and again no reply. So I took the drink and newspaper and put them in the trash and put his tray table up. I kept watching out of the corner of my eye and about 3 or 4 rows past he started moving around. He had obviously been awake the entire time. He waited until I was towards the back of the airplane and then hit is call button. When I approached him I asked if there was something he needed. He then started yelling at me that since he was sleeping I could do anything I wanted and wanted his newspaper back. I explained that I was preparing the cabin for landing and that I had asked him 3 times to put his tray table up and since he did not reply I had to help him with it. He demanded his paper back so I offered him the trash bag so that he could get it out. He then refused and asked for my name and supervisor’s name. I told him that I needed to take my seat for landing and went to sit down.
While sitting in the jump seat, the CAL FA stuck her head out in the isle and made a gesture to call the flight deck. I told her I would as soon as we got on the ground. We landed and I called the Capt and explained further and agreed that at the very least he was interfering with the duties of a Flight Attendant. When we arrived at the gate, there were police officers waiting in the jet way. When we opened the door I explained briefly what had happened. When the passenger deplaned he asked for my name and I told him he needed to step off the airplane. He did not budge but again asked for my name. I told him Lisa and then he deplaned with the police officers waiting. The police officers had told him several times that he needed to stand over to the side and he argued with them as well, saying that he was waiting so that he could get my name and information. One police officer came back down the jet way to get my information after taking the passenger into the terminal.
Both the Cal FA and the working Capt backed my decision. I also went to talk to the on duty supervisor as soon as I got to IAH which was Rachel Dirkmaat. She also seemed to agree and said that I had done the right thing.
Who says my job doesn't have perks!
Ha! That's AWESOME! What a jackass...man...you must have sooo much patience!
